2013 - An Adventurous, yet Challenging Thinking and Learning Journey
Greetings everyone. Yes it's great to be back in the teaching arena.
I am currently employed as a fulltime practitioner in Room 6, working alongside a Y5-Y6 class of 30 students at Edgecumbe Primary. We occupy a two-cell classroom block and like to 'show off' and maximise the use of our learning spaces.

A Brief Blast of my Past
I have worked as a Kaiako-Teacher alongside the Y6-Y8 e-Learners Team at Putauaki, am the Chief Technology Judge for the EBOP Science Fair and an ICT specialist teacher for REAP, Whakatane. I have spent three years as the Cluster Facilitator of e-Learning for PeaK-ICT, Kawerau Schools.
In 2011 I facilitated a sub-group of e-Learners: He Korero o te Whakatipuranga Hou who presented at the Mini GATE Symposium in
Whakatane. I also supportd digi e-Learners as teachers of digital photography and introduced them to Tech Pa, Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi.
I attended the ULearn 2011 Conference and shared my pecha kucha presentation based on the Six Positive Aspects of e-Learning. Although I am a contributing member of the VLN or Virtual Learning Network, my digital footprint needs refining and so I’ve been working on my own web space that informs the New Zealand Teacher Criteria and e-Learning with supporting examples.

My 30 day WERO...Seven Posts so Far...
Four years ago I learnt how to set up a blog by entering what was then known as the 31 day challenge. That was some time ago now and so I have decided to upskill yet again and enter into another 'wero' or challenge that Im creating along the way for myself. The learning intention is two-fold. I will blog here within my PLN or personal learning space each day, include some photos and if I get this right, find some 'like-minded' readers who are prepared to comment back.

D2: QUOTE for the day
I spend alot of time finding inspirational and motivational quotes or whakatauki that are relevant to my learning experiences or whatever I may need at the time. Dr Suess is certainly one of my favourite quote creators I have also found google images fantastic for searching pre-set and coloured words of wisdom. Today I share with you the following quote as we head into 2013...
'Write it on your heart that EVERY DAY is the BEST day of the year'- Ralph Waldo Emerson.
This snapshot of a sunset red sky was taken 12 /10/10 at 6.45pm from my home top deck. The saying..."Red sky at night, shepherd's delight" generally indicates a good chance of clear skies and fine weather ahead:)

D3: Favourite Time of the Year
I was born in December and so Christmas would have to be my favourite time of the year for celebration with friends and family. As a planner I often purchase Christmas memorabillia at the end of each silly season, store the goods for 365 days and then bring it all out the following year. I am accustomed to buying and using gift bags rather than wrapping presents. I also find time before school breaks for the year to make confectionary santa sleighs with the students I have spent my school year alongside.
Three simple things I enjoy about Christmas:
1. The festive mood is contagious and people arehappy to see each other.
2. The shops are filled with Christmas decorations and cheer.
3. Christmas signals that a very long holiday is soon to come.

D4: If the world ended tomorrow, what would I do?
If the foreast for tomorrow appears glum and bleak I would.... grab a pencil and paper and write a bucket list of at least FIVE things that I could achive in today. It might go something like this:
1. Do some retail therapy and shop until I drop.
2. Indulge in a yummy meal.
3. Book a helicopter ride around the Bay.
4. Pat a kiwi
5. Spend the evening and 11th hour with my family and mokopuna.

D5: Screen Dump of My Desktop
This image currently features on my desktop and is a paper collage that I created about 7 years ago. It's my dreamscape as a collection of wants, needs and desires that I continually manifest into my life. I have used it often as the 'brand' header for this my PLN and it also features on cups, t-shirts, business and thank you cards created in my role as an e-Learning Facilitator.
The dreamscape image generally accompanies my personal whakatauki or saying:
'Paving the way for our 21st Century thinkers and learners'.

D6: Latest Creative Pastime
It's Summer so I love spending time in the garden and have recently replanted two hanging baskets for the upstairs patio. A hint of nature's colour while dining alfresco is absolutely glorious.
Wisteria is a late 'Spring' cousin of the pea family that often flowers pink, white or lilac (as above) and I have two young vines that beautifully surround the eastern top deck of our family home. Wisteria is a such greaceful flower that I believe, arrives quickly and leaves all too soon. This photo was taken in 2010 and features as the first of many in my 365 photo challenge. |
D7: Best Pet Ever
Photo 20/365 taken 2010. My blog post at that time reads:
Sam is the 'man-cat' of our house and is treated practically like one of the whanau. He's placid, very affectionate, loves to eat fish and sleeps on the sofa. Sam's in my face right now and multing to the max. It is no surprise that I turn up for work lately with a few strands of cat fur stuck to my laptop and some on my clothes. My friend's moggy passed away 10.10.10 and that reminds me how I am not looking forward to the day when Sam decides to depart this earth. I'll have to take a extended, extended, extended whanau leave:o
Late last year we said goodbye to Sam. He enjoyed a long healthy life and was our BESTpet ever because of his very loving nature and the quirky things he would do. Life will never be the same and we are in no hurry to ever replace him.
