Ahau: About Me
Toku maunga - Ko Putauaki
Toku awa - Ko Rangitaiki
Toku iwi - Ko Ngatiawa
Toku hapu - Ko Pahipoto
It has been said that indigenous people like myself will bring prior knowledge to the fore and always relate back to what is known ie: through whakapapa or genealogy. The four lines mentioned above as my pepeha or simple introduction, share that I am strongly connected not only to Pahipoto a sub-tribe of the Ngatiawa people who reside in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, but also to significant places like Putauaki the mountain and Rangitaiki our local river.
Nau mai, Haere mai. Greetings and Welcome
I was born Māori as Jeanette Hinerangi Eruera (now Murphy), grand daughter of the late Eruera Riini Manuera, guardian of Putauaki and paramount chief of the Ngātiawa tribe. I am the 20th direct descendant of Wairaka, daughter of Toroa, navigator of the Mataatua waka, one of the great seven canoes to arrive from Aotearoa, New Zealand from Hawaiiki.
I am married to Thomas and we have two very wonderful children. We have also been blessed with two beautiful mokopuna who fill our lives with lots of love, light and laughter.

Whanau or family (and friends) are very important to me and so this page is dedicated to and for those who hold dear as my immediate loved ones. They are collective beings and pieces of a bigger plan - one that makes ME who I am today. Arohanui kia koutou katoa.
The Presentation that follows forms part of a Teaching Adults module I completed with Te Wananga o Aotearoa a few years ago. It is based on kaitiakitanga otherwise known as guardianship and summarises quite nicely who I am and the job roles that I have had.
I am now employed as an Instructional Designer for Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi. For a brief on my work status, do visit the Life After Teaching 2016 page.
2015: My Personal Statement & Teaching Philosophy
STRENGTHS:
I am a creative and intuitive classroom practitioner/facilitator with a passion for student excellence in thinking and learning.
Since I will more than often role model my expectations, I take pleasure in setting developmental goals that focus on ‘best teaching practice’ in all that I do.
For akonga/students this encourages:
☼ Mohiotanga – Occupying a state of mind that is focused wholly on thinking and learning
☼ Manaakitanga me Whanaungatanga – Having a clear understanding of the learning journey and becoming fully aware of
every step of the process’
☼ Whakapono me Kotahitanga – Commending the special excitement of making things happen through inspired,
individual and collaborative learning

PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS AND PROFESSIONAL VALUES:
I…
... am confident in my ability to establish and develop working relationships with akonga, their whānau and my professional colleagues.
... promote a collaborative, inclusive and support learning environment that embraces e-Learning
... like to actively engage in the well-being of all akonga for whom I am responsible.
... utilise e-Learning to share and further my professional learning and development.
This means that in the classroom or an online environment I will…
☼ encourage students to become actively involved in what they are learning and what they need to do next.
☼ manage a blog in partnership with students that enables whānau to keep in touch with our thinking and learning
programmes.
☼ share a range of synchronous and asynchronous tools that allow students and the community to have a voice in decision making, discussions and reflections.
☼ support whānau so they may confidently access online resources and the portfolios of their tamariki.

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE IN PRACTICE:
Looking ahead as a classroom teacher and professional leader of e-Learning I have plans to:
☼ expand on the ICT potential of every student I am fortunate to work alongside.
☼ build on ‘teacher-community’ engagement by creating online spaces and resources that are purposeful and accessible to anyone, anywhere and anytime.
☼ pave the way as an effective Kaiako-Teacher/Facilitator for all students, staff, teachers and whānau who are the leaders of our global world and digital age.
My personal vision in all that I do is based on the ‘so what’ of thinking and learning. Conclusively I have the potential, ambition and drive that will always make a difference in my life and in the lives of others.
