What is a Smackdown? It is a smorgasboard of ideas and resources contributed by attendees. Contributions to a smackdown are short (about two minutes) and delivered quickly. Attendees introduce themselves and have a few minutes to: * share an idea or link that works for them * contribute inspirational ideas * raise a challenge or concern that the group may be able to help with Smackdown contributions will also help Jude and Jeanette plan an upcoming EBOP mini conference for teachers by teachers. With the introduction of new technology @ E.P.S it would be wise to revisit the e-Learning Planning Framework as teachers and also collectively as a school. http://elearning.tki.org.nz/content/download/2013/16775/file/eLPF%20REVISED%20VERSION_Jan2014.pdf 09/04/15: EPS VLN Posting - The e-book that I am currently reading based on Mindset Change

Melanie Matthews: This was our 5th meet up and was exciting, inspiring and filled with great opportunities, new connections and exciting ideas to move forward with. I wonder how I can get more teachers going to this day, at the moment we seem to have mostly school leaders and I often hear them say it is hard to get others to take on board the digital opportunities that they can share with them. My response: Kia ora Melanie. It was great to finally meet yourself and also Leigh. The question you pose about how to get more people on board is one that I too am coming to grips with, although we have teachers rather than senior leaders attending our hui and the group continues to vary each time based on what our kaupapa is. I also seem to think there has got to be a W.I.T.F.T...what's in it for them...that entices people to come along. Now that we have primarily based our meetings at REAP in Whakatane, we seem to attract alot more local teachers. We will at times visit schools in the area. I found this also occurred when I was an ICTPD Facilitator and so I tagged a few KEY teachers per school to join me and share what they were doing. It certainly meant guiding and supporting them to a point where they felt comfortable to take a lead role. That was five years ago and to this day two of them still stand alongside me. You have just recently met them. I am reading a number of e-books based on online collaboration that I hope will shed some light. I have also revisited the e-learning Planning Framework to gauge the 'stages and spaces' that may be pertinent. In an effort to model being a connected educator I cross-post often to the VLN, VPLD webspace, my personal FB page, EBOP Connected Teachers FB page, NZ Teachers (Primary) FB page, EPS closed FB page and my own blog. I have also exchanged cellphone numbers and set up a FB page of resources for akonga or students of Te Putaketanga o te Reo Maori, the night classes I currently attend. |
