I am really grateful for the life that I live right now. I have so many wonderful persons to also be thankful for. I know that my life can be challenging at times but it is well worth every minute. A couple of weeks ago I thought it would be a good idea to map out what my thinking and learning journey looks like thus far. I have used http://www.easel.ly/ to create the following infographic...

Jeanette: Tika to korero Lesa. I have endured a number of career pathways in my time however teaching is certainly the one that motivates me to rise each day, plan well, exercise an attitude of gratitude and of course reflect, rest and reset for whatever thinking and learning that lies ahead...even in the holidays lol 09 April 2015: Crowd-sourced collection of Growth Mindset resources: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1scRmIzR_hO5P2U92kIBekCwf7j9-0e2-vHHdg-aoHX0/mobilepresent?pli=1&slide=id.p 08 April 2015: Growing that Mindset in Kids' speak: http://community.mindsetworks.com/blog-page/home-blogs/entry/how-to-grow-your-intelligence-graphic 06 April 2015: Nga ture - The knowledge that our actions are morally and ethically correct and that we are responding in an honourable manner: http://www.slideshare.net/mobile/k8epai/engaging-mori-learners 04 April 2015: The 'tune that just wont go away' phenomenom: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1scRmIzR_hO5P2U92kIBekCwf7j9-0e2-vHHdg-aoHX0/mobilepresent?pli=1&slide=id.p 03 April 2015: Mr B's last day - Keeping it real boss: http://www.3news.co.nz/tvshows/campbelllive/mr-bs-last-day-at-school-2015040220 29 March 2015: 100 ways to use Google Drive in the Classroom: http://www.teachthought.com/technology/100-ways-use-google-drive-classroom/?utm_campaign=trueAnthem&utm_content=5517444404d3017a50000001&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook 17 March 2015: Short video clips to support Boys' with Writing: http://success-for-boys.tki.org.nz/Teaching-learning-resources/Story-Starters 14 March 2015: iPad Apps suggested by Stuart Hale: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=960723213952596&set=gm.1640444272846128& 11 March 2015: Pizza Reading Challenge: http://www.lianza.org.nz/lianza-and-hell-pizza-reading-challenge-2015 29 February 2015: Getting a grip on Google - https://www.google.com/edu/training/get-trained/ Cross-posted from NZ Teachers (Primary) FB page 14 March 2015:
Morena Craig. To assist me I have worked out a weekly timetable where I cross out all my playground duties and commitments etc then fit in curriculum marking based in or around times that I would teach it. I also gauge what I can mark in class like Language and Maths. We mark Spelling and Homethink together and I have a set of pens, stickers etc that students can collectively use. We also peer mark where and when the time suits. I keep my own set of marking materials that includes pens, stickers, rubber stamps and one in particular that I fancy has 'Your next learning steps' on it. I also keep a checklist of students names handy that I use to ensure all books are collected and marked. I am very much into reflective thinking and providing constructive feedback so my comments are quite precise. BTW I'm a Y5-Y6 teacher and I think the level that you teach also determines the amount of marking that is required. Hope this rather long post helps. It's Monday, raining outside and we are in the auditorium listening to the keynote speaker Arena HeiHei talk about Google Classroom. I'm thinking this korero may 'blow' some schools and teachers away. We will possibly look at using Hapara Dashboard. Multi-tasking works for me right now. Last night I set up an EBOP Connected Teachers FB page and will add posts about the conference throughout our day. I am also very excited that we are supported by Jude from REAP and am hoping this social network site will bring more of our local teachers on board. 5pm - My THREE takeaway ideas are 1. Sandpit time - to actually play with apps. 2: Networking and sharing of ideas within our team and amongst other teachers 3: MDM - mobile device management - our school's next learning steps. We are attending the EBOP e-Learning Conference in Whakatane on Monday and so I have spent a considerable amount of time setting up 12 ipads and 12 chromebooks. The ipad Air 2 are now loaded with apps that will be 'briefed' at the TOD and the chromebooks have a phantom school google account set up. Staff have been encouraged to sign in with their own account and utilise that on the day.
The next rather tedious task will be to recall the devices, set them up under a management system then roll them out for classes. Our ICT Manager will be in charge of that one. I have also thought about creating a google form (for staff) or rubric (for students) so that teachers and eventually their tamariki, can critically assess and evaluate the ipad apps. Term 3 of this year I will be implementing Reciprocal Teaching in my classroom. Along with three staff from EPS, RTLB and other cluster schools I attended Professional Development provided by Julia Westera. My very informal notes follow: Phases of rollout - Evidence based development - A breakthrough integration of metatheories Know levels re: non-fiction text 11am: Video of students and teacher modelling reciprocal teaching First 6 readings - high interest instructional texts Low decoders p33 - can read the text first before entering group
I've experienced many rather busy weeks this Term so much that I find little time for myself let alone time to blog. Swimming has taken quite a chunk out of each day and then I've been planning for our class camp that happened two week's ago. Busy, Busy. Busy! The past five days have been no exception. Amidst planning for the classroom, we have endured two meetings re: EDGE, our new student management system and Maths - Jo. With only three weeks left until the end of Term I have updated my google calendar and it still looks BUSY!
